Nagpur: In a significant move prioritizing student safety amid rising temperatures, the Nagpur District Administration has issued strict heatwave guidelines — and this time, coaching institutes are clearly in focus.
Acting under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, District Collector Kumar Ashirwad has enforced a district-wide order through the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), effective till June 15, 2026.
This development comes after growing public concern – including issues highlighted by Nagpur Today – over students travelling in extreme heat and incidents of heat exhaustion.

Key Highlights of the Order
The latest directive leaves little room for ambiguity:
- Coaching classes banned between 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM
- Schools instructed to operate only during cooler morning/evening hours
- Colleges advised to avoid afternoon exams and classes
- Mandatory drinking water, ORS, and shaded rest areas at institutions and workplaces
- Workers to get rest breaks between 11 AM and 4 PM
- Hospitals directed to stay fully prepared for heatwave cases
Nagpur Today’s Concern Gets Official Attention
For the past few days, Nagpur Today has been consistently raising concerns about:
- Students travelling from areas like Pardi, Besa, and Manish Nagar
- Long commutes to coaching hubs such as IT Park
- Cases of students feeling dizzy or fainting in peak afternoon heat
The issue sparked public debate – why were coaching institutes continuing classes when schools were restricted?
Now, the administration has responded with clear, enforceable rules.
Clear Message to Coaching Institutes
The administration’s order directly addresses the grey area that coaching centres were operating in.
With a strict ban on classes during peak heat hours, institutes will now be required to:
- Reschedule batches to morning or evening
- Ensure basic heat safety arrangements
- Prioritize student health over rigid academic timelines
Failure to comply could invite action under disaster management provisions.
Focus Shifts to Implementation
While the order is strong on paper, the real test begins now:
- Will all coaching institutes comply immediately?
- Will enforcement teams conduct checks?
- Will student safety finally take precedence over syllabus pressure?
Parents and citizens have welcomed the move but are also demanding:
- Strict monitoring of coaching institutes
- Helpline or complaint mechanism
- Accountability for violations
Because the concern remains real – extreme heat is not just discomfort, it’s a health risk.
The administration’s latest directive marks a crucial step toward safeguarding students across Nagpur.
And it also reinforces one thing –
when public voices are raised, action follows.
