Nagpur: In a shocking incident from Nagpur, three accused have been arrested for kidnapping and murdering a 14-year-old boy, Atharv Dilip Nannore, from the Gawlipura area under Gittikhadan Police Station limits. Police revealed that the crime was carried out with the intention of extorting ransom.
The arrested accused have been identified as Jayram Gopal Yadav (19), a resident of IBM Road, Gittikhadan; Ketan alias Kunal Ramesh Sahu (22), residing near Qutubshah Mosque, Gittikhadan; and Ayush Mohan Sahu (19), a resident near Shivshankar Temple, Mankapur. All three reportedly worked as vegetable vendors.
According to police sources, the accused were familiar with Atharv’s family, as they regularly purchased vegetables from his father and also had pending dues. Aware that Atharv’s father was a wholesale vegetable trader and likely to have cash, they hatched a kidnapping plan three days prior to the incident. Jayram, who frequently visited their shop, was assigned the task of luring the boy.
On the day of the incident, Atharv had stepped out during a Hanuman Jayanti procession to buy ice cream. Jayram approached him and led him towards a Tata Ace vehicle, where the other two accused were waiting. The trio forcibly pushed him inside the vehicle and gagged him to prevent him from raising an alarm.
They initially drove towards Gorewada. However, after sensing panic and tension in the Gittikhadan area following the boy’s disappearance, they got frightened. In a desperate move, they strangled Atharv using a cloth at Gorewada, leading to his death. The accused then abandoned the vehicle at night and returned home.
CCTV Footage Leads to Breakthrough
After Atharv was reported missing, police launched an extensive CCTV scan across multiple routes. Following the recovery of the body, investigators traced a Tata Ace seen moving towards Gorewada around the time of the kidnapping. During interrogation, Ayush confessed to the crime, leading to the arrest of the other two accused. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized.
Body Dumped, Vehicle Cleaned to Destroy Evidence
After committing the murder, the accused disposed of Atharv’s body near the Kalmeshwar railway crossing flyover. In an attempt to destroy evidence and avoid suspicion, they later washed the vehicle.
The operation was successfully carried out by the Gittikhadan Police along with the Crime Branch team.
