Nagpur lacks proper playgrounds to boost sports, laments Muttemwar

MP Vilas Muttemwar expressed the need to create sporting atmosphere in the city which has produced number of national and international repute sportspersons despite lacking the basic facilities.
He was speaking during the felicitation of as many as 16 sportspersons of the region who were honoured by State government with Jeevan Gaurav, Shiv Chhatrapati and Eklavya awards recently were at Dr Punjabrao Deshmukh Sabhagruh of Dhanwate National College.
Nagpur District Olympic Association, Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) , Vidarbha Yuvak Mandal, Young Teachers Association and Dhanwate National College jointly organised the function.
Former vice-chancellor of RTM Nagpur University Haribhau Kedar will preside over the function. MLA Dinanath Padole, president of Nagpur City Congress Committee Vikas Thakre, NIT trustee Anantrao Gharad and DSO Vijay Santan also shared the dais along with veteran sports organiser Atal bahadur Singh and DNC principal Dr Babanrao Taywade. Speaking further Muttemwar said sports is still neglected field in the country.
He regretted that city lack proper playgrounds and basic infrastructure . ” Although football is very popular in the city, there is no independent ground for it”. He further said there is a need to give an encouragement to the sportspersons. He also appealed to the students to concentrate on sports along with regular study.
In his speech, former mayor Atal Bahadur Singh expressed gratitude towards citizens. He said, ” The city has given me lot of honour and an opportunity to work in various fields. I got the honour only because the support of citizens”.
MLA Dinanath Padole, Dr Taywade, Vikas Thakre also spoke on the occasion.

Those who were honoured include Jeevan Gaurav awardee and president of Nagpur District Football Association Sardar Atalbahadur Singh, sports organiser award recipients principal of DNC and veteran sports organiser Dr Babanrao Taywade, veteran sports journalist and member of State Sports Policy Committee Sanjay Lokhande, Dr Hanumant Lunge of Shivaji Arts and Commerce College, Amravati, sports teacher of Nandgaon Khandeshwar Sadanand Jadhav, Shiv Chhatrapati awardees Nikhilesh Tabhane, Alok Pande, Bhushan Gomase, Kirti Mudliar, Swati Nandagawali, Pankaj Parate, Jaylakshmi Sarikonda and Gayatri Kawle.

Eklavya awardees include Sandeep Gawai, Dinesh Balgopal and Mahananda Talvekar.
