Nagpur: In a move aimed at reimagining postal services for a younger generation, Vidarbha’s first Gen Z-themed post office was inaugurated on Thursday at the VRCE Post Office inside Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), introducing a contemporary and student-friendly model of postal services on a university campus.
Designed to resonate with Gen Z sensibilities, the revamped facility blends tech-enabled postal and financial services with a modern, interactive setting. A streamlined digital interface has been introduced to make transactions quicker and more convenient, significantly enhancing the overall user experience. The VNIT centre is the third such upgraded post office in Maharashtra and the first in Nagpur and the Vidarbha region to adopt the Gen Z-centric concept.
Going beyond conventional service counters, the facility has been envisioned as a campus-friendly social space where students can relax while accessing essential services. To create an engaging environment, the post office features free Wi-Fi, a mini library, indoor games such as carrom and chess, and a coffee vending machine, offering a unique blend of services and recreation.
Postal officials said the initiative aims to introduce students to the evolving role of post offices while aligning services with their lifestyle and digital preferences. The integration of recreational elements alongside core postal and financial services is expected to increase student footfall and encourage young users to explore postal offerings.
The revamped facility has been developed under the Next Generation (N-GEN) initiative of the India Post, which focuses on modernising post offices through upgraded infrastructure, digital systems and improved customer interfaces.
The centre was inaugurated by VNIT Registrar Sachin Jagdale and Director Prem Lal Patel, in the presence of Director, Postal Services, Nagpur Region, Dr Sudhir Jakhere. Also present were Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Nagpur City Division, DLRSJ Prasuna Reddy, and Assistant Director Postal Services, Nagpur Regional Office, Jayant Daoo.
Officials said the initiative reflects a broader effort to make postal services simple, accessible and future-ready, particularly for a generation increasingly inclined towards digital platforms, while preserving the traditional role of post offices as vital public service hubs.
