Nagpur: The Nagpur District and Sessions Court on Monday had acquitted Sandip Joshi, Praveen Datke and 20 others in the 2005 Standing Committee Election scuffle case.

Back in 2005, led by Mayor Vikas Thakre, Congress was ruling at Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). During the same Town Hall, Mahal had observed the Presidential Election for the Standing Committee. However, owing to the ‘cross-voting’ of corporators an argument broke down amidst an election which soon turned into a fight. Following which many corporators faced legal action which was later bailed out.

Notably, the local court was seeking the presence of the city’s top BJP Officials at the courtroom and had issued several notices regarding the same to Joshi and Datke. But, the latter bluntly ignored notices and refused to acknowledge the court’s order. Following which Justice D S Sharma had also issued a Non-bailable warrant against 22 of the BJP leaders a couple of years back.

Adv. Ranjit Sardey and Adv. Praful Mohagaokar appeared for the accused persons.
