Nagpur cops nab man on run after theft at Vadodara temple, Rs 32 lakh booty seized

Nagpur: Wadi Police and Unit-1 of the Crime Branch of Nagpur on Saturday nabbed a man involved in a theft at a temple in Vadodara (Gujarat) and seized gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 32 lakh from his possession.

The accused, Antaryami Prema Das (51) is a native of village Balipada, Taluka Digapahandi, district Ganjam, Odisha.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Nimit Goyal got information that Das has committed theft at a temple in Vadodara on April 11 and was going to Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) in a bus from Surat. Goyal was also told by one of his informers that the bus (AR-20/B-5307) would be going via Nagpur. Goyal immediately directed Unit-1 of the Crime Branch and Wadi Police to take Das into custody. Soon, cops laid a trap and nabbed Das from the bus after it arrived at Wadi.

During his baggage search, police found gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 32 lakh. Das was also involved in two theft cases registered at Ganeshpeth and Tehsil Police Stations in 2015-16 in Nagpur. After his arrest at that time, he had told police that his name was Santosh Premanand Das.

Wadi Police are conducting further investigation before handing him over to Gujarat Police.

Theft at Jain temple in Ramtek, Rs 45,000 cash stolen from donation box

A gang of thieves burgled more than Rs 45,000 from the donation box of Taaran Taran Digamber Jain Chaityalaya Temple at Ramtek recently. Secretary of Trust Committee Neeraj Narendra Raut locked the doors of the temple around 10 pm on Thursday and went home. Next morning, former President of Municipal Council Mahendra Takkamore saw the door locks of the temple broken and cash and coins stolen from the donation box.

Takkamore informed Neeraj Narendra Jain about it. Jain immediately visited the temple and was shocked to find the broken door locks and empty donation box. Following a complaint lodged by Neeraj Jain, Ramtek Police have registered a theft case. Further investigation is being carried out by Police Inspector Prashant Kale.
