Nagpur: In a major breakthrough in the high-profile narcotic cough syrup trafficking case that created a stir across the country, Nagpur Police have arrested a key accused, Amir Mehbub Sheikh, from Satna in Madhya Pradesh. The operation was carried out by the DB Squad of Lakadganj Police Station. However, the main accused Shibbu remains on the run.
In a startling revelation, police found that Amir was being sheltered not by a stranger but by Shibbu’s own father-in-law at his residence in Satna. Police have indicated that the father-in-law may also be made an accused for providing refuge to the fugitive.
Police had been tracking Amir’s location using both traditional and technical surveillance. Eventually, information surfaced that Amir was hiding at the Satna residence of Shibbu’s in-laws.
After verifying the intelligence, a Nagpur Police team reached Satna and coordinated with the City Kotwali Police. A raid was conducted in the Maulvi Nagar–Nazeerabad area, where Amir was surrounded and arrested. Police seized all of his belongings from the room and brought them to Nagpur. Shibbu, however, managed to escape before the raid.
DB Squad chief Sandeep Shinde said that a notice has been issued to Shibbu’s father-in-law. He may be summoned to Nagpur as the investigation progresses. Police also seized Amir’s car following the arrest.
According to officials, the raid was carried out on Sunday afternoon in the Nazeerabad locality. CSP Devendra Pratap Singh Chauhan confirmed that Nagpur Police had arrived in Satna under “Operation Thunder” and, with the cooperation of local police, arrested the accused Amir and took him to Nagpur.
