Nagpur Boy Breaks National Speed Skating Record

Nikhilesh Tabhane (hails from Nagpur), India’s fastest speed skater, once again broke his own record of last year (25.62secs) in 300mts time trials & made a new record of 24.90secs. He is just 1.50secs behind the World’s fastest. He will now head to the World Championships in Taiwan, after finishing all his other competitions in the National Championships

Nagpur: The first brick of success was laid down with the hosting of the 50th National Roller Sports Championship, at the Ameya Classic Sports Club, Yashwant Nagar, Virar (west). The hosting of the championship for 3 years in a row, which is the 1st in the history of skating in India, was possible due to the efforts of Mayor of Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Hon. Shri Rajiv Yashwant Patil and Shri. Moreshwar Baria of M. Baria Developers .Ameya Classic Sport Club is the sponsor of this National Championship and is also providing the 1 km circuit road for half marathon of Roller Skating in Yashwant Nagar, Virar.

Ameya International Roller Skating Centre owned by Ameya Classic Club, has the best ever speed skating bank track and is the only one in India. It has a synthetic coating over it, which no other speed skating tracks in India have.

The track has broken all the records in skating history when Nikhilesh Tabhane broke an all time record of his own to enter the 25sec bandwagon which seemed next to impossible in the Indian conditions. Ameya International Roller Skating Centre is preparing itself to accommodate an Asian Championship in the near future

This time the championship is bigger in terms of competition as well as reach. The championship has now over 2000 participants from all over India who are participating in this event and all current International skaters who have taken part in Beach Asians Games, Asian Championship and World Championship will also be participating.

The press conference of the Championship was held at Ameya Classic Club on 21st January, 2015, which was followed by the Grand Inauguration by our esteemed guests:

There was also a dance performance, which was performed by Ganesh Acharya & his troupe where he also promoted his upcoming film ‘Hey Bro’ starring Ganesh Acharya, Maninder Singh, Hanif Hilal, Nupur Sharma, Mahie Gill, Prem Chopra, Manoj Joshi, etc. The movie releases on 27thFebruary, 2015. Few of the cast members – Maninder Singh, Hanif Hilal & Nupur Sharma were also present. The crowds went berserk with the dance performance & literally mobbed Ganesh Acharya for photos.

During the National Championships all the 4 disciplines such as Speed, artistic, roller hockey and freestyle will be taking place at one time and one place, which again is the 1st time it is happening in skating history. No other skating arena in India ever had a national where all the 4 disciplines of the game were included at one place.
