Nagpur: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday conducted a comprehensive review of major highway and corridor projects across Maharashtra, with a sharp focus on Nagpur-centric infrastructure aimed at boosting connectivity and economic growth in the region.
At a high-level meeting, the Minister assessed the progress of several high-speed and high-density corridors, many of which position Nagpur as a critical logistics and transport hub. Among the projects discussed were the six-laning of the Nagpur–Bhandara and Bhandara–Raipur stretches, which are expected to significantly ease traffic flow and improve connectivity towards Chhattisgarh.

Key inter-state corridors linking eastern Maharashtra also came under review, including the Durg–Gadchiroli–Mancherial and Gadchiroli–Kanker routes, both forming part of the ambitious Raipur–Visakhapatnam corridor. These projects are crucial for enhancing access to remote and tribal regions while unlocking economic potential.
Further strengthening Nagpur’s strategic importance, the Minister reviewed progress on the Gwalior–Nagpur and Nagpur–Hyderabad corridors, which are expected to streamline long-distance freight and passenger movement. The Lakhnadon–Durg–Raipur stretch and the proposed development of the Madhya Pradesh–Maharashtra border–Nagpur Bypass–Borkhedi section on NH-44 were also key highlights of the discussion.
In addition, plans for six-laning the Nagpur–Amravati highway were examined, a move that is expected to bolster intra-regional connectivity within Vidarbha and support industrial expansion.
Apart from Nagpur-focused projects, the meeting also reviewed nine state-level Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) highway projects covering a total of 527 km across Maharashtra. These include important routes such as Shirur–Ahilyanagar, Ahilyanagar–Wadala, Wadala–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna–Watur, and Nanded–Narsi–Deglur.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the review primarily aimed at identifying bottlenecks and accelerating execution timelines. The planned infrastructure upgrades are expected to improve logistics efficiency, strengthen rural-urban connectivity, and drive economic growth—particularly positioning Nagpur as a major transport and logistics nerve centre in Central India.
