Nagpur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nagpur has arrested an Assistant RTO and a broker for accepting a bribe of Rs 400. The accused had demanded the bribe in exchange for processing the transfer of vehicle ownership.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ashfaq Mehmood Ahmed (57), Assistant Regional Transport Officer at the Rural RTO Office, and broker Mirza Asrag Akram Baig (30), a resident of Satranjipura.
A vehicle dealer from Bhaldarpura area of Nagpur had applied at the Rural RTO office to change the ownership of three vehicles belonging to his sister and two acquaintances. Ashfaq allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 400 for quickly processing the work without finding any issues. The victim reported the matter to the ACB. On January 3, the ACB team verified the complaint in presence of the witnesses. Even after this, Ashfaq insisted that the work could only be done for Rs 400 and arranged for a meeting with the complainant on Monday.
The ACB team sent two witnesses along with the complainant to Ashfaq. He took Rs 400 as a bribe through broker Mirza Asrag. After catching Asrag, the ACB team arrested Ashfaq as well. The Rs 400 marked currency was seized from Ashfaq.
A case has been registered against both at Kapil Nagar police station. The action was made under the guidance of SP Digambar Pradhan and Additional SP Sanjay Purandare, with the efforts of WPI Ujjwala Madavi, Praveen Lakade, Constable Kanchan Gulbase, Sarang Balpande, Pankaj Awchat, Amol Menghare, Homeshvar Waikar, and Harshalata Bharadkar.
