Nagpur: A Police Post coming under Ajni Police Station was reduced to ashes following a mysterious fire that broke out on Tuesday night. A policeman had a narrow escape as he managed to rush out of the burning Post in the nick of time.
Chaos ruled supreme when the Police Post situated at Shatabdi Square suddenly caught fire on Tuesday night. Soon, all the material kept in the Police Post turned into rubble. A police constable, Bhaskar Murkute, who was having a deep sleep, sensed the burning smell in the nick of time and fled the smoldering spot to save his life. But before Murkute could raise an alarm and act to douse the flames, the fire had gone out of his reach. The fire, suspected to be caused by a short circuit, destroyed crucial documents such as Maintenance Diary, Crime Record, Wireless Machine, Walkie-Talkie phones and other material within no time.
Interestingly, the Shatabdi Square-based Police Post is the only one from Narendra Nagar to Mhalgi Nagar keeping a watch in the vast areas of Toli, Ramteke Nagar, Ramewshwari, Manish Nagar, Trisharan Square, Jogi Nagar and other sensitive places. Fire Brigade was informed about the incident. But before the firemen could be of any help the Police Post was reduced to ashes.
The Fire Brigade and police are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
