Ravindra Jain turned 70 in March last year and released a book he has authored called ‘Dil ke nazar se’ which was released by film stars Rekha and Hema. The title of the book is poignant as Mr. Jain is vision impaired .

Ravindra Jain was born blind to well-known Sanskrit scholar and Ayurvedacharya, Pandit Indramani Jain and mother Kiran Jain. Jain and his family hail from Aligarh. He is the third child among seven brothers and a sister. Ravindra Jain’s elder siblings are Pandit Mahendra Kumar Jain, a renowned Ayurvedic physician and D.K. Though the rest of his family is into medical sciences or successful at business etc. Ravindra’s father noted his talent for music at a young age and decided to teach him to sing. He used to sing bhajans to begin with, but soon tried his hands at composing music for songs of all genre.

Ravindra Jain is one of the most notable of the Hindi music directors who started his career in the early 1970s, composing for hit films such as Chor machaye shor (1974), Geet gata chal (1975), Chitchor (1976) , Ankhiyon ke jharoko se(1978) Raj Kapoor’s Ram teri Ganga maili, Do Jasoos and Heena. Along with composing music, he also wrote the lyrics for many of his famous songs. Ravindra Jain’s father died during the recording sessions of the film Saudagar, however, Jain did not leave the studio until the recordings were finalised giving utmost importance to his work.

He has sung many of his compositions with singer from south Yesudas, whom he brought to Mumbai.

Nagpurians will be treated to many of these delectable delights even if Ravindra Jain will not grace the function himself.
