Nagpur: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) sends monthly electricity bills online to consumers who have registered their mobile numbers and email addresses. In the Nagpur division, out of 19.75 lakh consumers across all categories, 18.40 lakh consumers–amounting to 93.13% — have registered their mobile numbers with MSEDCL.

MSEDCL introduced a centralized billing process a few years ago. Through a mobile app, meter readings of low-tension electricity consumers are taken on a specific date each month. Within just four to five days, the electricity bill is generated and sent to consumers via SMS or email. For this process, it is essential to register a mobile number and email ID with MSEDCL.

Consumers who have registered their mobile numbers and email addresses will receive their electricity bills every month on both platforms. In the Nagpur Rural Division, 91.52% of the 5.20 lakh consumers have registered their mobile numbers. In the Nagpur Urban Division, 93.07% of the 10.19 lakh electricity consumers have registered, while in the Wardha Division, 93.8% of the 4.35 lakh consumers have registered their mobile numbers with MSEDCL.

Some consumers may have registered incorrect mobile numbers. Such consumers are advised to update their accurate mobile numbers. Additionally, consumers wishing to change their previously registered mobile numbers should also update them.

How to register mobile number or Email:

Consumers can register their mobile numbers and email addresses through MSEDCL’s website or the mobile app. To register a mobile number, consumers can send an SMS to 9930399303 with the information “mrEG” followed by their twelve-digit customer number from the mobile number they wish to register.

Convenience for prompt payment discount

Consumers can avail of a 1% prompt payment discount if they pay their bills within seven days of the bill date. The exact date is mentioned in the electricity bill. Receiving bills via SMS or email makes it easier to avail of this discount. By registering a mobile number, consumers also receive notifications about scheduled maintenance, power outages, meter reading dates, unit numbers, bill amounts, due dates, and power disconnection notices. MSEDCL urges all consumers, including those who are tenants, to register their mobile numbers to ensure they receive timely updates.
