Nagpur:
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has, in a move, reportedly shown his readiness to face Lokayukta probe into MP Mill scam in which State Housing Minister Prakash Mehta had allegedly permitted the transfer of building rights due to slumd-wellers to a building for project affected people in violation of development control norms. The move facilitated generation of additional building rights worth Rs 500 crore for the developer S D Corporation. As the Opposition clamour for sacking of Mehta grew, Fadnavis had announced in both the Houses of State Legislature that the Lokayukta M L Tahaliyani will probe all the allegations against Mehta, including the MP Mill compound case.

On the file of MP Mill proposal, Mehta had said Fadnavis was apprised about the proposal. This remark has reportedly ‘forced’ Fadnavis to show his readiness to face the Lokayukta probe himself and blunt the doubting finger pointing toward him. However, Mehta had later backtracked on the floor of the State Assembly on the claim that he had apprised the Chief Minister about the MP Mill proposal.

Fadnavis had said that the case of MP Mill compound in Tardeo goes back to 1999 and the inquiry will also look into the permissions given between 1999-2014. He had said that he has gone deep into the issue and has found that the land originally belonged to a private person which was acquired by the Defence in 1946 and was handed to the State for caretaking purpose.
