More goons slapped with the stringent MCOCA Act

20th and 21st cases where city cops invoked MCOCA

Nagpur: While garnering some more feathers in their caps, the Nagpur City Police under the able guidance of Commissioner of Police S P Yadav have succeeded in slapping the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA) on a few more goons.

While addressing a press conference Additional Commissioner of Police (North and South Zone) Dr Suhas Warke, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ranjan Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-IV) G Shridhar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Nilesh Raut said that the cops have strived to ensure that peace, law and order is maintained in the city.

Under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (North and South Zone) Dr Suhas Warke, the case files were made and presented in the court with the proposal to invoke MCOCA-1999 Act.

MCOCA invoked in the 20th case
In another such proactive action against the goons, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ranjan Sharma said that they investigated the recent case committed by Hemant Gawande, Yuvraj Mathankar and Shakti Manpia. The cops found out that there are many cases registered against these goons. They are

  • Yuvraj Mathankar-14 cases of serious offences including body harm
  • Shakti Manpia-7 cases of serious nature.
  • Hemant Gawande-6 cases of serious nature.
  • Ashish Kantode
  • Ravi Umatte
  • Vishal Wasnik
  • 12-13 Unknown accused

Having carried out meticulous investigation, the cops felt that these criminals are history sheeters/repeat offenders and so they worked out the case and proposed to invoke the MCOCA against them. The cops have recovered Goods and cash worth Rs 26, 25,000 (twenty Six lakhs twenty five thousand) from the goons.

The goods that were stolen by the goons include a gold mangalsutra of 4 tolas (Approx), two ear-rings (Jhumke) of around 1.5 tolas, gold ear-rings of 5 grams, earrings of complainant’s mother worth 5 grams in all goods worth Rs 2 lakhs. Apart from the gold ornaments, cash worth Rs 1.5 lakhs (meant for marriage expenses) in all amounting to Rs 3.5 lakhs were recovered by the cops. Apart from that the cops have also recovered the Hyundai Creta Car and a Tata Safari (SUV) used in the commission of crime.

The offence that these goons had committed is as follows:
In what could be mentioned as daring act by goons, they entered the house of a builder Sarang Awathankar having a business of sale and purchase of properties under the name of Jain Builders and after threatening him and his family looted all the jewellery and cash from the lockers on July 6, 2016. A case was registered in Hudkeshwar Police Station under Crime No 296/16, under Sections 395, 397, 387, 342, 354, 452, 143, 147, 148, 149 of Indian Penal Code and 3-25, 4-25 of Arms Act and under Sections 135-3 of Bombay Police Act. MCOCA invoked in the 21st case
The twenty first case in which the city cops have invoked the MCOCA Act against goons is the case where a gang of goons including a history-sheeter, attempted to assault Congress Corporator of Prabhag No 49 Guddu alias Yogesh Tiwari on July 1, 2016.

The cops investigated the case and found that the goons who were involved in the assault of Congress Corporator of Prabhag No 49 Guddu alias Yogesh Tiwari and where the complaint was lodged by his brother Shailendra Tiwari who was threatened by the goons.

The cops had investigated the goons and the details include :

  • History sheeter Ashish alias Robert Felix-9 cases,
  • Maruti, Dudmogare-1 case
  • Akash Tarachand Bhanjare-3 cases,
  • Sandesh Bhimrao Khobragade-2 cases and
  • Ganesh alias Sanu Chandel-3 cases
  • Two more accused who are absconding include Archit Bhave and Prashant Kamble

The cops have also invoked the stringent MCOCA Act against these goons.

The case was registered under Sections 452, 294, 506 (B), 143, 144, 147, 148, 4+25 and Section 3 of MCOCA-1999.
