04sld3Former Haryana police chief SPS Rathore, held guilty of molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra who committed suicide in 1993, will not have to go back to jail, the Supreme Court said today.

The court confirmed his conviction but said he will not have to spend any more jail time. Rathore has spent six months in jail.

Girhotra, a minor girl, allegedly committed suicide after molestation by former Haryana director general of police (DGP) SPS Rathore.

In June 2012, the CBI filed a closure report in the case, which her family has not contested. Speaking to the media then, her family said it had given up its fight for justice in the court of law after 22 years.
