Metro Rail Corpn to construct Orange City Street, Netaji Market

NAGPUR: Reviewing status of various development works that were pending due to shortage of funds with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asked the Metro Rail Corporation to shoulder the important responsibility of undertaking and completing those development works in the city.

The Orange City Street, proposed to be constructed in South-West Nagpur on the lines of the famous London Street, has been pending since last few years. The Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation will now be completing this project along with the Metro Rail project. Apart from this, the Metro Rail Corporation will also be undertaking construction of Netaji Market and broadening of the road in front of Nagpur Railway Station after demolishing the existing flyover.

Gadkari was presiding over a meeting organized to review the status of development works in the city. Brajesh Dixit, the Managing Director of Maha Metro who was present in the meeting, assured the Union Minister that the Metro Rail Corporation would complete all these project in stipulated time.

Gadkari told the meeting the Orange City Street was an important project and that the District Collector and NMC would jointly make a policy regarding sale of commercial as well as residential space on the street. Gadkari instructed to come up with the policy at the earliest and to approach professionals for sale of the spaces. He also suggested to keep the prices low compared to market rates. A Metro Mall will also be constructed near Jaiprakash Nagar Metro Station on Orange City Street.

The meeting was also attended by Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Deuputy Mayor Deepraj Pardikar, NMC’s standing committee chairman Virendra Kukreja, ruling party chief in NMC Sandeep Joshi, MLA Krishna Khopde and District Collector Ashwin Mudgal.

Demolition of flyover after Sept 25

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the meeting that the demolition of existing flyover in front of the west gate of Nagpur Railway Station will be undertaken after September 25. The Metro Rail Corporation (MRC) will demolish the flyover and will undertake widening of road and other development works there. The MRC will also construct Netaji Market near Munje Square. 50% of the profit from these places will be shared with the MRC, the Union Minister informed.

Development plan for markets

Brajesh Dixit, the MD of MRC, presented in the meeting the development plans of Gol Bazaar, Cotton Market and Santra Market, which will also be developed by the Metro Rail Corporation. Dixit informed that 1500 people from the 25 acres of land of the three markets will have to be rehabilitated during the project.

Rs 30 crores for SAI sports complex

Gadkari instructed District Collector Ashwin Mudgal to allocate Rs 30 crores from the mining funds for the construction of regional sports complex of Sports Authority of India (SAI) proposed at Wathoda in Nagpur. The minister informed that the Central government will be provising Rs 30 crores for the project. He also instructed to allocate land near the sports complex for the campus of Symbiosis Institute and a school of Raymonds Group.

Metro Rail happy to be partner in city’s development: Dixit

MD of Metro Rail Corporation Brajesh Dixit said that the MRC was delighted to shoulder the responsibility of other development works in the city along with constructing the Metro Rail. He said that efforts were being made to create unique infrastructure in the city. He assured that all development works will be undertaken as per the standard of the Metro Rail.
