Nagpur: A heavily crowded newly built Sitabuldi metro station was an unusual scene on Sunday. The huge turnout was far more than expected by metro rail authorities as they went through harrowing times, managing the swamping visitors who were messed up in queues.

A video of Sitabuldi station in the peak of its rush hour gave a glimpse of how overcrowded the place was, on Sunday. The people were madly pushing and bumping into one another in order to make way to their ride. Despite being the paid day, the craze for metro was nothing short of what was seen on first day on commercial run on Khapri-Sitabuldi (reach 1) stretch.

Sunday being the holiday witnessed people from all directions flooding at all the operating metro stations – Sitabuldi, Airport, Airport South, New Airport, and Khapri, to board their maiden ride of Nagpur metro train.

Gauging the situation, metro authorities had kept the police bandobast in place. Traffic cops were seen struggling to manage the crowd.

Authorities have shut the train operations on Monday, owing to the maintenance work.
