Meerut: Amidst the ongoing debate around triple talaq, the practise of Muslim men getting instant divorce from their wives, a woman from Meerut said ‘talaq, talaq, talaq’ to her abusive husband.
Amreen Bano, (24), filed an FIR against her husband, alleging that he abused, thrashed and tortured her everyday. She even suffered a miscarriage.
“My husband does not say anything. He does not give me, my kids or my nephew, nieces any money. I want him to go to jail and I want to give talaq to my husband. Like in the Muslim community a man gives talaq by saying it three times. I want to do the same,” Bano said.
Amreen and her sister Farheen were married to two brothers from a neighbouring village in 2012. Both the sisters alleged that since the wedding, they have been frequently beaten and abused by their husbands, Sabir and Shakir respectively.
Yesterday, the sisters went to meet a senior police officer, alleging that no action had been taken by the local police on their complaint.
