Nagpur: Continuing their crackdown on hardcore criminals posing threat to citizens, city police on Thursday slapped the stringent MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act) on the notorious goon Sagar alias Dadya Prakash Pujari (20), the main accused in the sensational Vinaychandra Ganvir murder that took place at Laxmi Beer Bar near Medical College Square on March 11, 2016. MCOCA was also invoked against three accomplices of Sagar namely Shubham alias Shooter Shyamu Neware (20), Akash alias Shaka Sampatrao Lillare (18) and a juvenile delinquent boy.
All these four accused were arrested on August 18, 2016 after the painstaking investigations by Crime Branch and Ajni police.
The kingpin of the gang, Sagar alias Dadya Prakash Pujari (20), resident of Bhandeplot, Sevadal Nagar, Sakkardara and his other three accomplices including the juvenile delinquent are history-sheeters and offences of serious nature have been registered against them at various police stations in the city. The kingpin Sagar Pujari and three others Shubham alias Shooter Shyamu Neware, (Akash alias Shaka Sampatrao Lillare and the juvenile delinquent offender, all residents of Bhandeplot, Sevadal Nagar, Sakkardara, were involved in the brutal murder of Vinaychandra alias Pappu Chandramani Ganvir (24) of Dwarkapuri, Hawrapeth. The murder had taken place at Laxmi Beer Bar near Medical Square on March 11, 2016. The Crime Branch sleuths and Ajni police, in a well-planned strategy and an in-depth investigation, had nabbed the four accused on August 18, 2016.
Ajni police had sent a proposal to Additional Commissioner of Police (South) seeking invoking of MCOCA against the four accused. Subsequently, the officials approved the proposal invoking the Section 3 of MCOCA, 1999 against the four accused including the juvenile delinquent offender.
Notably, this is the 23rd incident in which the city police have slapped the MCOCA on dreaded criminals in recent times.
