Gangster Ambekar Surrender
Nagpur
: In a major setback to Nagpur Crime Branch, the dreaded gangster Santosh Ambekar, who had surrendered to Sonegaon police last Wednesday i.e. March 2, 2016, was remanded to Magisterial Custody on Wednesday (March 9) along with other gangster Prakash Mankar.

While speaking to Nagpur Today, the Lawyer representing Santosh Ambekar said that though the Police Prosecutor representing the Crime Branch requested the MCOCA Court for an extension of Police Custodial Remand, Justice V Survavanshi had reportedly asked Santosh Ambekar whether he has anything more to confess, when Santosh allegedly said that he has nothing more to say, the learned Judge told the Crime Branch that they were given sufficient time to gather information from the accused and now they will have to use the available information that they gathered from the accused. Justice Suryavanshi then remanded Santosh Ambekar and Prakash Mankar to Magisterial Custodial Remand.

The gangster had allegedly gone underground after being booked under the stringent MCOCA, reportedly surrendered before the cops of Sonegaon Police Station.

The Crime Branch of Nagpur Police had slapped the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) provision on him for his involvement in a flurry of criminal activities of serious nature. The Crime Branch sleuths had raided Ambekar’s house a few days back to net him but the gangster had succeeded in dodging the raiding cops. Nevertheless, the cops had seized vital documents and other stuff including a laptop and pen drives from his house. Notably, eleven members of Ambekar gang have been booked under MCOCA and most of them have been arrested. The latest crime the gang was involved pertained to an attempt to grab a house in Sonegaon area belonging to Swapnil Bidwai forcibly.

Taking a serious view of the case, cops invoked the MCOCA provisions against the builder Sachin Adulkar, Santosh Ambekar and his gang of henchmen.
