Massive fire breaks at Chandrapur’s 220 Kv Sub-Station, no casualties reported

Chandrapur: A massive fire broke out in the 220 Kv Sub-Station at Warora, Chandrapur on Monday night. The fire led to bursting of two transformers triggering loud explosions and trembling of entire area. Thick clouds of smoke bellowing out of the Sub-Station created panic among residents of adjoining areas. The exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. No loss of life has been reported so far.

Fire Brigade personnel along with tenders rushed to the site and brought the blaze under control. The employees of the Sub-Station disconnected the power supply and thus prevented the fire from spreading to the main Sub-Station. Fire-fighters succeeded in dousing the fire early Tuesday morning. But the bursting of transformers caused snapping of electric supply to around 35 villages. On the other hand, Mahatransco suffered loss in lakhs.

Meanwhile, according to Mahatransco officials, it will take another 24 hours to restore power supply to the villages. The officials have arrived at the site of fire and repairing work is being carried out on war footing.
