Man tries to immolate himself near GPO square

Nagpur: A BEER Bar owner attempted to immolate himself at GPO square near the house of State Home Minister (HM) Anil Deshmukh in Sitabuldi police station area. He was immediately rescued by policemen deployed at the residence of the Home Minister. A case of attempt to suicide was registered by police against the man. The man was identified as Mayur Surendra Jaiswal (38), a resident of Plot No. 204, Shrinand Apartment, Khamla.

According to police, Jaiswal came to GPO square with a kerosene bottle on Saturday at 1.30 pm. When Jaiswal poured kerosene on himself, policemen deployed at the house of the Home Minister noticed the act and ran towards Jaiswal. They immediately snatched the bottle from him and alerted Police Control Room. Staff of Sitabuldi Police Station rushed to the spot and took the man in custody.

Police Inspector (PI) Atul Sabnis of Sitabuldi Police Station informed that, Jaiswal’s Empire Beer Bar was closed since enforcement of lockdown. Along with financial trouble, Jaiswal was also facing hard time in personal life. He started living in a rented accommodation in Rana Pratap Nagar area for mental peace.When he failed to pay rent for three months, the landlord locked the flat. Jaiswal then approached Rana Pratap Nagar police and lodged a complaint.
PI Sabnis claimed that the matter was under investigation at Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station. “As per Jaiswal’s statement, the landlord had misplaced some of his important documents from the flat,” PI Sabnis said. An offence under Section 309 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered by Sitabuldi Police against Jaiswal. Further investigation is on
