Nagpur: City’s posh Ramnagar area was on Wednesday left terror-struck as a man was murdered brutally in full public view.
The spine-chilling killing took place near Shiv Mandir in Marartoli around 10 am. The assailants, probably six or more in number, were laced with sharp-edged weapons and did their job mercilessly. The murder was fallout of old enmity.
The murder evoked sharp reaction from the relatives and supporters of the deceased who demanded immediate arrest of the accused, fast track court trial and death sentence.
The 38-year old deceased, Khushal Babanrao Kuhike, a resident of Telankhedi, had gone to purchase milk packet from a kirana shop in Ramnagar’s Marartoli on Wednesday morning. At the same time, the assailants surrounded Khushal and first blinded him by throwing chili powder in his eyes. As the helpless Khushal struggled, the gang attacked him with an axe and hit him on his neck. Later, the marauding assailants smashed Khushal’s head with stones and repeated blows of the axe, swords and other weapons. Khushal collapsed and died on the spot with brain pieces splattered on the road.
The daylight murder was witnessed by many nearby people but they preferred to remain mute spectators.
It is learnt that the murder of Uike could have a link with another murder that had taken place one and half month ago. A man named Bagga alias Nilesh Korti was done to death in the same manner in the same area. The deceased Khushal Kuhike was in decoration business and was allegedly helping financially the killers of Bagga and trying to bail them out. His killing could be the handy work of his rivals as a revenge act.
Upon receiving information about the murder, DCP Zone-2 Kalasagar, Ambazari PI Atul Sabnis, Crime Branch sleuths rushed to the spot and started an in-depth probe.
Relatives hold demos at CM’s residence:
Demanding immediate arrest of Khushal Kuhike’s murderers, relatives and others gathered in front of residence of Chief Minister in Dharampeth and held demonstration. A posse of Sitabuldi police too reached the residence of the Chief Minister and handled the situation peacefully.
Later, the relatives of the deceased Khushal also gathered at Ambazari Police Station and demanded immediate arrest of the killers. The relatives suspected the role of Bagga’s father Vitthal Korti in the murder of Khushal. The January 27 was the 40th day ritual of Bagga and one of his friends named James Singh had vowed revenge by eliminating Khushal. Vitthal Korti had even threatened Khushal’s mother of dire consequences.
The murder of Khushal Kuhike was reportedly well planned. According to sources, James Singh, Pawan Sherekar, Jayash alias Paa Atram, Palash Chaudhary, and Akash Samliya are being suspected as the key accused in the murder. Crime Branch reportedly has formed teams to nab the accused. The accused Vitthal Korti has reportedly been arrested but the fact could not be verified so far.
