Man kills younger brother in New Kamptee

Nagpur: New Kamptee Police have booked a man for allegedly killing his younger brother brother by pushing him in a well after tying a boulder around his waist. The body was discovered in the well on Friday morning, New Kamptee police said.

The deceased was identified as Ravi Ganpat Kadu (38) a resident of Ghorpad village, near Kamptee, in Nagpur district. Ravi’s elder brother Surendra and his relative are cooling heels behind the bars.

According to police, Ravi was a habitual alcoholic. His wife left him and married another person five years ago. He used to create scenes and hurl abuses at family members including mother after consuming liquor.

Last week, Ravi came home in an inebriated condition. When Surendra pushed him during a heated exchange of words, he collapsed on the ground. Later, Surendra called a relative from
another village. They took unconscious Ravi to the farm of Premchand Khot on a motorcycle late in the night. After tying a boulder around his waist and the two threw Ravi in the well.

The farm owner noticed the body floating in the water on Friday morning and he alerted the police. Staff of New Kamptee police station rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Initially, the police registered a case of accidental death.
During investigation, the cops got a tip-off from a villager who told the police that he had seen Surendra, Ravi and an unidentified going somewhere on a motorcycle late in the night. The police immediately picked Ravi and his accomplice who have confessed for committing the murder during police interrogation.

An offence under Sections 302 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered by New Kamptee police. Further investigation is on.
