Man jumps off terrace in a bid to chase thief, dies

Nagpur: In another tragic incident, a man who was chasing a thief who had attempted to rob his house jumped from the terrace after the thief only to sustain grievous injuries and eventually die on May 10, 2016.

According to sources, the deceased is identified as Govind Ramlal Tiwari aged 42 years and a resident of Manewada Square. The deceased is said to be a very hard worker and had worked very hard to establish three sweet-meat shops in the area named Govind Sweets.

The deceased Govind Tiwari has four daughters and two sons. He had married off the eldest daughter and the next daughter was married off recently on April 19, 2016.

On Sunday i.e. May 8, 2016 at around 11:30 pm, when he and his brother identified as Gopal Ramlal Tiwari were having dinner, his children had gone to the terrace of their house to sleep. Suddenly the children had spotted two men in black shirts and pants trying to enter their house from the rear. The children had then started shouting Chor Chor (thief thief). The thief is alleged to have threatened the children not to shout or he will come up and kill them.

However, with the confidence that they were four and could easily handle two men, continued shouting. The deceased Govind and his brother Gopal rushed after the thieves with two sticks. The thieves split and one managed to run away from one direction while another jumped into another house. The deceased Govind asked his brother to come from the other end while he would chase the thief from this side. He ran after the thief. The thief jumped onto a shed with tin roof and then jump down to the ground and run.

Govind who was following him also jumped onto the shed. However, the spot where Govind jumped was of fibre which gave away in his weight bringing the shed and angles onto Govind. Govind sustained injuries to his head and face. The profusely bleeding Govind was rushed to Orange City Hospital and Research Centre. However, since there was a delay in getting him admitted, the family members of the deceased Govind rushed him to Care Hospital. There during the course of treatment, the attending doctors declared him dead.
