According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Nilima Jitendra alias Chandrabose Desai (56), the couple’s relationship was marred by frequent disputes, repeated separations, and alleged psychological harassment. On July 21, 2025, following a domestic argument, the accused reportedly left her matrimonial home, allegedly issuing a warning to her husband to “consider it a separation.”

Police sources said that after a gap of four to five months, the accused re-established contact and briefly stayed with her husband in the Lashkaribagh area of Nagpur for about a month. However, tensions reportedly resurfaced, and she again left the house after another dispute.

Despite repeated attempts by the deceased to reconcile, including emotional appeals and messages indicating distress, the accused allegedly refused to engage and ultimately blocked his contact, cutting off communication entirely.

Investigators believe that the repeated conflicts, abandonment, and breakdown of communication placed the victim under severe mental stress. Unable to cope with the situation, Mohit Desai allegedly died by suicide on February 12, 2026, around 8 am, by hanging himself at his residence.

Initially, Pachpaoli Police registered the case as an accidental death. However, during the course of inquiry and based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother, police concluded that there was prima facie evidence of sustained mental harassment, which may have driven the victim to take the extreme step.

Acting on the complaint, a case has now been registered against the accused wife under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment to suicide. The offence has been filed by Sub-Inspector Vinayak Buwa of Pachpaoli Police Station.

Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and determine the extent of the accused’s role in the alleged abetment.

The case has once again brought into focus the serious consequences of prolonged emotional distress and domestic discord, with investigators now working to piece together the circumstances that led to the tragic death.
