Nagpur: The otherwise peaceful and smooth immersion of thousands of Ganesh idols on Sunday culminated on a tragic note when a 43-year old man drowned to death in Police Tank in Gittikhadan area.

The deceased has been identified as Salim Sheikh Hamid (43), resident of Godavari Nagar Slums, Mankapur. On Sunday, Salim was present at Police Tank, Police Line Takli and helping immersion of Ganesh idols of devotees. Salim was taking the idols to deeper waters of the tank and immersing them there. While immersing one of the idols at about 7.30 pm, Salim got trapped in the trash beneath the surface and was drowned to death.
