Man attacked for refusing to give Navratri ‘vargani’ in MIDC

Refusal to part with ‘Vargani’ (contribution/donation) for Navratri festival cost a man dearly as he was attacked by a gang of miscreants in MIDC area on Sunday evening. The attackers even threatened to kill him for not meeting their demand. In all 10 persons have been booked in this connection.

The complainant, Rahul Devanand Avchar (30), tenant of Nandkumar Dubey, Pardhi Nagar, Hingna Road, told police that when he was present in his room, the main accused Lalit Jha and his 8-9 accomplices in the age group of 25-27 years arrived around 6.30 pm on Sunday. The accused demanded ‘Vargani’ for the Navratri festivity to be celebrated by Nav Durga Utsav Mandal in the area. However, Rahul Avchar expressed his inability to meet their ‘Vargani’ demand. Boiling with anger over Rahul’s refusal, the accused Lalit Jha and his cronies accosted him in front of Meena Tailoring Shop in the locality and started hurling abuses on him. Even before Rahul could pacify the group of accused, they attacked him with iron rods and inflicted injuries on his hands.

The miscreants also doled out a life threat against Rahul. Scared by the life threat, Rahul straightaway approached MIDC Police Station and registered a case against the accused.

PSI Patankar has booked the main accused Lalit Jha and others under Sections 387, 323, 504, 506, 143, 147, 149 of IPC read with Sub-Section 35 of Mumbai Police Act and probing the matter further.
