Man arrested with illicit liquor

Nagpur: The squad formed to take action against illegal business by the police in Zone III arrested one person and seized country made illicit liquor on the eve of elections. The liquor was being taken to Chandrapur, the police said.

On a tip off, the squad comprising PSI Shivraj Jamdade, ASI Madhukar, constable Raghu constables Sandeep, Santosh and Sarang raided a place near Varsha Wine Shop, Machchi Market, under the jurisdiction of Ganeshpeth police station under the guidance of DCP Zone III Rahul Maknikar on Tuesday.

The police arrested Pravin Mangal Katare (24), resident of Shivaji Nagar, near Gajanan Mandir, Bhadravati; district Chandrapur, while he was trying to take the liquor to Chandrapur, which is a prohibited district. Two of his accomplices Akshay Shrihari Mane and Sonu Khobragade, both residents of Bhadravati fled the spot.

The police seized cash of Rs 1230 and 290 bottles of country made liquor collectively worth Rs 9270. The police registered an offence under relevant sections against Pravin and have launched manhunt to nab the other two who are absconding.
