Make tree planting, conserving a people’s movement: Mayor

The Mayor Pravin Datke on Thursday called to make tree planting and tree conservation a people’s movement. “Awareness to maintain environment balance, green cover, cleanliness, beauty of a city is necessary. Therefore, based on the concept of ‘tree planting and tree conserving’ the Nagpur Municipal Corporation aims to plant 35000 trees during the drive to be undertaken from July 1 to August 30. The role of citizens in making the drive a movement is important,” the Mayor said and added “This tree planting drive is a step forward to the concept of Harit Kranti (Green Revoloution)”.

A meeting in connection with tree plantation drive was held at Civil Lines office of NMC and was attended by representatives of Corporate Offices, Banks, Vanrai Foundation, Green Vigil Foundation, Maitree Parivar, NGOs, CA Association, NMC Contractors Association, Standing Committee Chairman Sudhir Raut, Ruling Party Leader Dayashankar Tiwari, Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, and a number of other higher officials and Corporators.

Addressing the meeting, the Mayor further said that Nagpur City is known as Green City. To make the city number one green city, a massive tree plantation drive is being undertaken from July 1 to August 30. Saplings will be planted at vacant places of NMC, grounds, roadsides, parking places, hospitals, schools and at other places with the help of citizens of various areas in all 10 zones of NMC. As a part of the State Government drive to plant 2 crore trees across Maharashtra on July 1, the NMC will plant 10,600 trees across the city. MOIL has made available 1000 tree guards while Jaika Company has contributed 500 tree guards.
