Nagpur: In a major step aimed at curbing road accidents and cracking down on reckless driving, the Nagpur City Police has announced the launch of a city-wide drug testing campaign for motorists. The initiative, titled “Operation U-Turn,” will come into effect from May 1.
Under this drive, police will conduct on-the-spot drug tests of vehicle drivers using advanced testing devices. Officials said the campaign is designed to identify and penalise motorists driving under the influence of narcotic substances, a growing concern linked to serious road mishaps.

Police officials made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against offenders. Those found driving under the influence of drugs will face prosecution under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act as well as the NDPS Act.

Authorities emphasised that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety and reduce fatalities caused by impaired driving. The police have appealed to citizens to strictly follow traffic rules and prioritise responsible driving to ensure safer roads across the city.
