Major fire breaks out in MIDC company, loss put in lakhs; no casualties reported

Nagpur: A major fire broke out in a company manufacturing vehicle spare parts on Saturday morning. The fire reduced a number of goods to ashes and put the company, based in MIDC’s Nipani village, to loss in lakhs. However, no casualties were reported. At least four fire tenders doused the flames after hours of struggle.

The devastating fire was first noticed in the company named Nilesh Metallurgical Company around 7 in the morning. The company is based near Nipani village under Butibori MIDC and is owned by a person named Joshi. The company reportedly manufactures vehicle spare parts. The moment the blaze was noticed by some employees of the company, chaos prevailed. The employees initially tried to control the fire by themselves but the fire had taken gigantic shape as time passed. Ultimately, Fire Brigade at Butibori in MIDC area was alerted. The Fire Brigade personnel with one or two fire tenders tried to douse the leaping flames but the exercise proved inadequate. Finally, help from Nagpur Fire Brigade Headquarters, Civil Lines was sought. Subsequently, at least four fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was brought under control. But by the time the fire was doused, a number of goods were reduced to ashes. The company reportedly was put to loss in lakhs. However, no casualties were reported in the fire. Butibori police too reached the spot and started their investigation.

According to Fire Brigade and police sources, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately. Further investigations are underway.
