Maharashtra government appoints Brijesh Singh as IG of Police (Cyber)

IG Brijesh Singh (cyber)Mumbai/ Nagpur: Maharashtra government has appointed Senior IPS officer and IT specialist Brijesh Singh as Inspector General of Police (Cyber), a special authority created by the Maharashtra government to tackle cyber crime and other related threats.

The state issued a government resolution on January 5 for creating a special post at its south Mumbai headquarters. Singh’s appointment order is expected anytime soon, said a senior officer in home department. Even the office space for Singh has been demarcated in Mantralaya. The IG (Cyber) will report to Addl Chief Secretary (home) KP Bakshi, who, along with CM Devendra Fadnavis, has been instrumental in having this separate department for dealing with cyber threats in various forms. The IG will also be in charge of crime against women along with cyber crime.

According to information available, the IG will directly report to Bakshi and work in close association with home and CMO teams. A team of experts from police and private entities will work in special team of officers. Currently, Singh is working with CID as IG where he has introduced many path breaking IT schemes such as online FIRs, communication facilities between police and complainants, advanced forensics and digitisation of crime records of the state.
