Nagpur: After the marathon hearing in the case pertaining to non-payment of lease amount by Maharasthra Rashtrabhasha Sabha, the State’s Urban Development Minister Ranjeet Patil has directed all the appellants to file their written statement within 15 days. The lease amount due on MRS is Rs 40 crore to be levied with the incurred interests. The hearing was organised on Wednesday afternoon for over 2 hours.

It may be mentioned that MRS had filed an appeal against Nagpur Improvement Trust’s demand notice on which Patil called the hearing in Mumbai.

Madhukar Kukde, President of Citizen Forum for Equality, through his counsel Tushar Mandlekar informed that he had updated the minister during the hearing that the NIT’s evalution was correct and MRS needed to deposit Rs 123 crores which include the sum of Rs 40 crores and interest levied on it. Only after that, lease renewal could be considered, he added.

NIT had estimated the overdue on the basis of the MRS move to sell 9 shops in 2009 followed by penalty on leasing out the space to Wockhardt Hospital.

Among others who were present during the hearing included MRS counsel Shantanu, secretary of Rashtrabhasa Sabha, the counsel of Meghe owned firm which bought land Prakash Meghe, counsel for Wockhardt Hospital which took the space on lease from Meghe, Devendra Chauhan, counsel for NIT Prashant Bhandarkar along with senior officers of ministry of urban development.

Hearing all the sides, Patil then directed them to file written statement within a fortnight following which he would decide on the matter.
