Nagpur: In a major development, Maha Metro Nagpur and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for construction of “Metro Mall” on Orange City Street near Jai Prakash Nagar Metro Station. The MoU was signed by Maha Metro MD Dr Brijesh Dixit and Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar at Metro House.

Maha Metro Nagpur has already been assigned some of city’s major projects, including development of road opposite Railway Station and Futala. With the work on Nagpur Metro Project gaining steam, the Maha Metro is contributing substantially towards city’s development. The Mall is first step towards development of city’s famed Orange City Street Project.

It may be recalled, that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, had, sometime back, publicly patted the Maha Metro for its quality work and had asked Metro to be part of Orange City Street Project. The Mall, once completed, would pave way for fulfilment of Orange City Street Project. It would prove to be a major attraction for the city, as many commercial establishments and other utility projects would come up on the stretch of land adjoining the Metro Mall.

The proposed “Metro Mall” has been conceptualised by NMC and will come up on street connecting Wardha Road and Jaitala and diagonally opposite Hotel Radisson Blu. Similarly, Metro would hand over the Mall to NMC soon after the construction is over. After being handed over to NMC, the ownership of the Metro Mall would lie with the civic body. Most importantly, proposed Metro Mall and Jai Prakash Nagar Metro Station will be inter-connected at the third floor of the Mall.

The Metro Mall is proposed on a piece of land admeasuring 3,308.767 Square Meters approximately and the total built-up area would be 10,005.83 Square Meters. The Mall will be 8 storey structure having height of 45 meters. The project has been titled “Development of Metro Mall on ‘Plot – 1’ of Orange City Street Project, adjacent to Jai Prakash Nagar Metro Station, on Deposit Work Basis”. The proposed Metro Mall will have 2 basements for parking.

This apart, as per the plans, first to fourth floors would be reserved exclusively for shops, while the construction between fifth and eighth floor would be used for office purposes. The carpet area for shops will be about 1,735 square meters and office spaces of 3,200 square meters. As per the MoU signed by the two parties, NMC will hand over the land to Metro well in time for execution of the construction work. One of the prominent feature of the mall is the huge parking space its offers to the visitors. Overall, 49 cars, 98 Scooters and Bicycles each, parking will be available in the parking lot of the Mall.
