A fanatic lovelorn youth was so obsessed with a girl that he stabbed her to death after she rejected to his indecent proposal and later ended his life too, by jumping in front of a running train in Khaparkheda near here on Monday. Police sources said the youth Harshal Khushal Guradkar (20), a resident of Shingori in Parseoni taluka of Nagpur district was in love with the girl, Priyanka Rangankar (17), resident of same place.
However, the love was a one-way affair as the girl frequently snubbed Harshal’s overtures. The snubbing left the lovelorn Harshal fuming and he decided to end his love in a brutal manner. On August 21, when Priyanka and her friends were on way to their tuition class, Harshal accosted Priyanka in front of Dena Bank at Prakash Nagar and insisted Priyanka to sit on his motorcycle. However, she refused Harshal’s diktat. Enraged by the refusal, Harshal took out a knife and stabbed Priyanka repeatedly and left the spot leaving Priyanka bleeding profusely. Priyanka was rushed to a private hospital. However, she succumbed to stab injuries on Sunday. Priyanka was a Commerce student in Shankarrao Chavan College in Khaparkheda.
The bloody attack on Priyanka triggered a rage among citizens and students who took out a morcha to Khaparkheda Police Station demanding immediate arrest of Harshal. All educational institutions and markets in the area remained closed. Hundreds of people attended the funeral of Priyanka on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the repentant Harshal punished himself the next day i.e. on Monday by committing suicide by jumping in front of a running train near Kalmeshwar on Monday. His head got separated from the body. Since the mutilated body could not be identified, Railway police buried it at a crematorium the same day. But before his suicide, Khaparkheda police had launched a massive hunt to nab Harshal and scanned all temples, Railway Station, Bus Stand, gardens and other places to trace him. The police got information from Railway Police Control Room that a body of a youth has been found on railway tracks. Khaparkheda police took brother and father of Harshal and went to spot to identify the victim. But since Railway police had already buried body of Harshal, the brother and father identified the victim as Harshal after looking his cloths. Now, after permission from Nagpur SDM, Harshal’s body will be exhumed on Tuesday and a fresh post-mortem will be done.
Police are investigating the matter further.
