Nagpur: A 17-year old girl, fearing social stigma, committed suicide after being raped by a man who pretended to marry her and betrayed her after she became pregnant. The incident came to light when the girl ended her life by hanging around 4 pm on Thursday, January 18. The accused man has been booked but has not been arrested as yet.
According to police, the accused Kailash Dindayal Dhakate (23), resident of Kalamna area, lured the 17-year old girl, residing in same locality, and took her to Dongargarh (Chhattisgarh). There, he pretended to marry her and established physical relations with her forcibly.

However, when the girl became pregnant, the accused betrayed and deserted her. The victimised girl was tortured, mentally and physically, and told by the accused he is not keeping her any more. Tormented and betrayed, the girl feared social stigma being pregnant and decided to end her life and ordeal as well. She committed suicide by hanging to ceiling fan in her bedroom with the help on.
Kalamna ASI Bais, based on a complaint, has booked the accused Kailash Dhakate under Sections 376(F)(J)(N), 306 of the IPC read with Sub-Sections 4, 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Further probe is on.
