The Lokmat Group had taken an initiative to recognize the work of Newspaper vendors and hawkers along with symbolizing the freedom of press in the form of “The Statue of Freedom of Press’. The initiative was the first of its kind in the country in which the latter’s statue was unveiled at Lokmat Media’s printing plant at Butibori at the hands of Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde.
The Lokmat Group also got made statue of a newspaper hawker on a bicycle and after due permissions had installed the statue at RBI Square. While clarifying about the unveiling of the statue, General Manager of Lokmat Media Limited Nilesh Singh said that the statue will be unveiled only after the elections. He said that there is a lot of work pending on the site, especially the lightings and other decorations etc.
The Lokmat Group which had taken the initiative had already obtained the permission of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) before installing the statue at the RBI Square as is required by law said DCP Bharat Tangde.
