Nagpur: In view of acute shortage of water and lack of storage facilities for rain water, the State Government has directed the local self bodies to strictly implement rain water harvesting system.

Following the order, Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has decided to install rain water harvesting system at all their buildings across the city. A decision in this regard was taken by NIT Trustees in a meeting held the other day. Similarly, in another decision, the NIT had started recovering security deposit at the time of sanctioning of maps of new buildings towards installing rain water harvesting system mandatorily. But now the amounts of security deposit are being returned, the Chairman of Standing Committee and NIT Trustee Sudhir Raut said after the meeting.

It may be mentioned that NIT recovers security deposit at the time of sanctioning of maps but it never bothers to ensure implementation of rain water harvesting system. People too never evince interest in installing the system either.
