In some of the examples, the NMC took up the work of replacement of street light pole(s) opposite Traffic Park under Dharampeth zone. It started the work about a fortnight ago. The old poles were to be replaced with new ones.
For this purpose, the dividers were dug deep with the debris allowed to spread around and on the road, causing inconvenience to passers-by. The new of poles of street light are allowed to be lying on the footpath. The work could not be completed due to various reasons, one of them is many holidays in a week.
Dangerous for children
There is Traffic Park for children opposite which the NMC work is in progress. The deep dug ground can be dangerous for children visiting the Park. On the roadside, many small shops have been allowed to run, gathering crowds rights from morning till late evening. Even vehicles are also parked in front of those shops and very much covering half of road. As now a days the youngsters are in the habit of driving rashly, such a situation may cause any accidents.
It is learnt that the electricity department has a plan to install LED bulbs on street-lamp posts, so the old poles are being replaced with new and strong poles. But, what about expediting the work by NMC? The NMC has been able to erect only 3 poles in more than 15 days’ time.
However, Gajendra Tarapure, junior engineer, electrification department, NMC, said that the work had got held up due to Deekshabhumi Dhamma Pravartan programme, but the pole erection would be done within three days. Let wait and see.
