Nagpur:
Freshly demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes have now turned out to be hot source for bribing in Nagpur. Anti-Corruption Bureau have caught a lawyer and a court attorney asking the amount of Rs 15 lakh on Saturday from a theft accused. The lawyer Harshal Diwakar Rathore, 27, and court’s attorney Ganesh Amrutlal Jayaswal, 55, have been arrested for accepting monetary favors from an accused in the theft case. The case against the accused have been registered at Lakadganj police station.

ACB is also looking for one more accused sub-inspector Umakant Rathore who is reportedly at large. A case has been registered against all the three at Sitabuldi police station.

It is learnt that Harshal is a resident of Yawatmal. Sub-inspector Umakant Rathod had reportedly asked for Rs 15 lakh from the complainant through Harshal. Rathod tried to assure the complainant that there would be no legal action against him if he pays the amount. He also got Harshal and Jayaswal into the plan and has been pressing the complainant to pay up.

The complainant against whom a major theft case has been registered at Lakadganj police station tried to avoid the trio by saying that he had Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes. However the trio even agreed to accept the bribe in these notes.

Fed up of constant pressure, the complainant approached ACB who laid the trap on Friday. As per the plan, the complainant contacted sub inspector Rathod who diverted him to Harshal. When contacted, Harshal then directed him to give the money to the attorney. All the three were trying to ditch the situation out of fear of ACB, however the sleuths arrested lawyer and attorney on Friday. As soon the new reached sub inspector Rathore, he has been reportedly absconding.
