Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Ashes Immersed in Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and state BJP Chief Jitu Vaghani on Wednesday immersed ashes of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad, ANI reported. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders had handed urns of Vajpayee’s ashes to party presidents from across the country at a function.

The BJP had said since all party workers and people across the country want to pay tributes to Vajpayee, it has decided to take out ‘asthi kalash yatras’ in all states. Processions will start from state capitals and will pass through all blocks, the BJP said, adding the ashes of the BJP stalwart will be immersed in rivers across the country.

Vajpayee, who passed away here at AIIMS on Thursday at age 93, was on Friday cremated with full military honours at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, where people turned out in tens of thousands to pay their final tributes.

Vajpayee’s foster-daughter Namita lit the funeral pyre amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns and firing of a 21-gun salute by soldiers.
