Land mafia grabs 1000-acre Government land, create illegal layouts, sells plots to thousands

The land mafia indulged in illegal purchase and sale of plots in Dahegaon (Rangari) area of Nagpur District. Now, the Gram Panchayat, after knowing the illegal deals, has started sending notices to 5000-6000 purchasers of the plots and thus exposing the fraud thrust upon them by land mafia. The Gram Panchayat has started the process of cancelling the plots. Till now, plot holders in 30 layouts have been sent notices.

In a development, the land mafia not only grabbed 1000-acre Government land in daylight but also sold hundreds of plots of the illegally carved layouts in a well-planned conspiracy. The role of some higher and lower ranked employees has come under cloud in the entire sordid episode.

According to reports and sources, the land mafia indulged in illegal purchase and sale of plots of land in Dahegaon (Rangari) area of Nagpur District. Now, the Gram Panchayat, after knowing the illegal deals, has started sending notices to 5000-6000 purchasers of the plots and thus exposing the fraud thrust upon them by land mafia. The Gram Panchayat has started the process of cancelling the plots. Till now, plot holders in 30 layouts have been sent notices. If the cheated plot holders lodge complaints with police, the land mafia could be brought to book under relevant Sections of Revenue, Forest and Prench Project Acts, sources said.

The sources further said, the land mafia carved out illegal layouts from the 1000-acre land mostly belonging to Irrigation Department, Canal  Department and Revenue Department in Mauja Dahegaon Rangari in Nagpur District. After creating illegal layouts, the land mafia indulged in selling plots to hundreds of prospective buyers and prepared illegal Sale Deeds and Registry was done in a well-planned conspiracy. The role of Saoner Sub-Registrar and the then Gram Secretary and Sarpanchs is being questioned and they may face criminal offences, sources said.

The illegal plot holders belong to Koradi, Mahadula, Godhni, Khaparkheda, Zingabai Takli, Valni, Patansaongi, Saoner, Amravati, Wardha, Mumbai, Bhopal, Baitul, Banaras, Lucknow, and some other parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand etc. All have been sent show cause notices. The Gram Secretary, Registrar and the witnesses who have put up their signatures on the Registry documents could face stern action like booking under criminal offences, sources said.

According to reports, hundreds of officials and employees of Western Coalfields Limited’s mines, Maharashtra State Electricity Board, working in different posts, purchased the plots with their lifetime savings of sweat. The plots were purchased by them for their next generations. All purchased the plots just 1 year before their retirement. But the notices have pushed them to the wall with worry writ large on their faces for near and dear ones.

According to sources, the course of action will be decided after scanning of documents of about 70 layouts.
