Thousands of people raised their objections against the staff and authorities of the Nagpur Improvement Trust who had come to demolish an age-old swimming pool to build a Commercial Complex in its place on Monday. However, when Nagpur Today spoke to the Chairman of Nagpur Improvement Trust Pravin Darade, he said that building a commercial complex in place of the swimming pool is a sheer rumour. He added that many delegations of citizens and leaders had come here and all were told that the report was a rumour.

One of the protesting people said, “NIT had built this swimming pool so that the citizens could have a facility of swimming and competitive people get trained to become ace swimmers. However, some officials allegedly proposed to make a commercial complex near the swimming pool.”

He said in a recently held Budget meeting, funds to construct this Commercial Complex too was sanctioned and released.

The swimming pool has thousands of members. When these members came to know that NIT has decided to erect a Commercial Complex in that place, they raised their objections. The members also staged an agitation to register their protest to making of a commercial complex.

The agitation of thousands of members was led by Corporator Parinay Fuke, MNS City Chief Prashant Pawar and Mohan Vajpayee. After staging their agitation at the spot, a delegation marched to gherao the authorities.

Meanwhile, Darade’s claims of the action being rumour still raises doubts among the minds of many people.
