Iron pillar collapses at metro rail interchange site on Munje square, no one hurt

Nagpur: In a first mishap ever since Mahametro started the mega Nagpur Metro Rail Project in Nagpur, an iron frame meant for erecting pillar at the project site on Munje square fell off the crane at around 4 pm on Friday. It was reportedly hit by a hydra machine which led to the fall. No one was hurt in the incident. However the incident has sent the citizens in panic.

Works on the stretch from Munje Square to Anand Talkies square has been going on war footing level owing to the traffic clutter. On Friday the pillar installation works were going on front of Janki talkies. The iron fabrication was however yet to be concretized and just the iron frame was being loaded made.

The incident resulted into heavy traffic jam as vehicular movement was completely disrupted on the stretch.

However the jam was actually the fallout of the rush that gathered to catch the glimpse of the incident.

Senior officials of the traffic department and Mahametro have reached the spot.


The entire metro project is divided into 4 Reaches and this incident happened on Reach 1.

Anil Kokate, Administrative GM, Mahametro told Nagpur Today that the incident happened when the iron frame was loaded with the help of the crane. The centring works for this frame was to be done today. However the frame was hit by the hydra machine and it got tilted towards one end. We have stopped the traffic for now as the frame is being cleared through mechanical cutter.

Meanwhile, Reach 1 incharge Devendra Ram Tekekar, Kokate and the officials of project consultant company ILFS also reached the spot.
