Ireland defeat West Indies by 4 wickets

NELSON/Nagpur: First upset for World Cup 2015 as Ireland have defeated West Indies by four wickets in their first pool match at Saxton Oval on Monday.

Ireland chased down the huge total of 305 runs magnificently, as Paul Stirling and Ed Joyce scored outstanding half centuries to set up the plate form for the rest of the team.

Stiling departed after scoring 92 while Joyce smoked 84 of just 67 deliveries before caught in the deep by Darren Bravo.

Niall O’Brien smashed unbeaten 79 to wrap up the game for Ireland with 26 balls remaining.

Jerome Taylor picked up three wickets for West Indies.

West Indians who had lost the toss and was invited to bat by Irish team, lost five wickets with 87 runs on the score board.

At that time Lendl Simmons and Darren Sammy posted 154 runs on the score board for sixth wicket. Sammy departed after scoring 89 runs of 67 balls while Simmons smashed 102 runs just facing 84 delivers.

George Dockrell took three wickets for the Irish team.
