Nagpur: In a major crackdown, city police have exposed a large-scale betting racket linked to Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, seizing cash worth ₹40 lakh during a raid in the Ambazari area.
Acting on specific inputs, the Pratap Nagar Police raided a flat being used as an operational hub for illegal betting activities. During the operation, officers recovered a substantial amount of cash and evidence pointing to organized betting transactions.
Key Accused and Modus Operandi
The main accused, Aman Pathak, had already been arrested earlier by the Crime Branch along with his associates. During further interrogation, investigators uncovered links to a suspected mastermind identified as “S.K.”, who is believed to have orchestrated the operation.
Police revealed that the flat was rented on S.K.’s instructions and used as a base to run betting operations, primarily during IPL matches.
Dubai Connection Under Scanner
The investigation has also revealed possible international links, with authorities suspecting that parts of the racket were being controlled from Dubai. Transactions were reportedly conducted through mobile applications, making the network more difficult to trace.
Ongoing Investigation
Aman Pathak’s custody has been extended until April 15, while police teams are actively searching for the absconding आरोपी “S.K.” Officials are also probing financial trails and digital evidence to uncover the full extent of the network.
The bust has created a stir in Nagpur, with authorities indicating that more arrests and revelations could follow as the investigation progresses.
