IPL-6 Spot Fixing: Key bookie Chhotu Agrawal bailed out, arriving in city

The mastermind and key cricket bookie of Nagpur,  Sanjay Gaurisankar Agrawal alias Chhotu Agrawal alias Chhotu Nagpuri, who had been booked on several occasions for betting on the game to the tune of crores of rupees and played the nasty role in Spot Fixing of IPL-6 with his network, was arrested by Delhi police on December 12 after remaining fugitive for seven months.

Nagpur News: The Spot Fixing scandal, embroiling Indian Premier League-6 (IPL-6) edition matches, that triggered a sort of earthquake across India and the cricketing world as well, had also brought Nagpur on world map.

The mastermind and key cricket bookie of Nagpur,  Sanjay Gaurisankar Agrawal alias Chhotu Agrawal alias Chhotu Nagpuri, who had been booked on several occasions for betting on the game to the tune of crores of rupees and played the nasty role in Spot Fixing of IPL-6 with his network, was arrested by Delhi police on December 12 after remaining fugitive for seven months.

However, according to reports and sources, Chhotu Nagpuri was released on bail by CBI Court on December 21. Another bookie and a close accomplice of Chhotu Agrawal, Sunil Bhatia is still in jail. Around 15-18 bookies were camping in Delhi to get the mastermind bailed out, the sources said.

The release of Chhotu Nagpuri created moments of ecstasy and partying in Nagpur bookie circles and they have gone exhilarating and have made flowery arrangements to accord a grand welcome to the “Boss” who is arriving in Orange City within a day or two.

Sources informed that Chhotu, who was earlier understood to have been absconded to Dubai, was found to be very much in the country. He was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi police. The sleuths worked on the tip off to corner Chhotu who was allegedly planning to flee the country.

Sanjay Agrawal alias Chhotu Agrawal was sent to 10- day police custody in Delhi. Chhotu Nagpuri, as he is famously known in the city, has been reportedly involved in spot-fixing the IPL 6 matches and allegedly contacted Rajasthan Royals Franchise in this regard.

Nagpur Today had prominently broken the news of his arrest on Wednesday night soon after his arrest.

Besides spot-fixing, which is considered as the major among all his betting moves, Chhotu was also involved in betting at local level and notoriously famous for the huge quantum of profit he booked in every cricket match through inviting bets. He was also wanted by the Mumbai Crime Branch over charges of money laundering. A non-bailable warrant was also issued against him in this regard. The source added that Chottu is a close associate of the arrested bookie, Ashwini Agrawal, alias Tinku Mandi, who was the right hand man of the underworld Don, Dawood Ibrahim.

He was also in touch with the tainted players. After the recent arrest of Amit Kishore Jishani from Maharashtra, a special cell team got a tip-off about Chottu’s hide-outs. On the basis of the informed squeezed out from Jishani, several raids were conducted to nab him from his possible hide-outs.

Meanwhile, it also came out that Chhotu has shifted base to Dubai. But later on fearing his arrest, Chhotu surrendered himself in the Patiala Court. The court then informed senior officials of special cell, who were investigating the IPL-spot fixing scandal. The team demanded police custody of Chhotu to know his role in the scandal. Also, during interrogation, the team wanted to seek information about other absconding accused that still remain on the wanted list.
