Deviates from her earlier made statements
Mumbai/ Nagpur: Denying her role of any sort in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, Indrani Mukherjea in her statement to CBI said on Saturday that she was not at all responsible for the death of her daughter, said the media reports.
She told CBI that it was April 24, 2012 when she had invited Sheena to a family dinner in Bandra and to get her introduced to Khanna in that dinner, and thereafter she had returned to her house at Worli.
Indrani suspected her ex-husband Khanna of murdering her daughter (Sheena) as he was jealous of Sheena’s growing influence in the family, because Sheena’s growing influence could be detrimental to the influence of his own daughter, Vidhi.
It may be mentioned that a three-member CBI team had interrogated Indrani in Byculla Jail for 7 hours on Saturday.
On the condition of maintaining anonymity, a senior CBI officer told the media, as, “When CBI officers asked Indrani about her role in the murder of Sheena, she outright rejected her involvement of any sort and blamed her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai. Driver was already arrested by Mumbai police in Sheena murder case.”
The officer also informed,”The CBI officers fully cooperated with Sheena in recording her statement and she divulged whatever was asked. She was fluently speaking English and she also saw her own statement after being recorded.”
It may be mentioned that Khanna and Rai were arrested along with Indrani by Khar police on August 25. She is in Byculla Jail while both other accused are lodged in Arthur Road Jail.
Earlier in her statement Indrani had confessed that she was involved in criminal conspiracy for Sheena’s murder. But now she has totally denied her involvement in the case. Similarly, Khanna and Rai had confessed their role in Sheena’s murder. According to them, Indrani had allegedly caught the feet of Sheena at rear seat of car and Khanna had strangled her, while driver Rai continuously kept driving the car in Bandra area.
The officer further said, “We were expecting that Indrani would blame Khanna and Rai, and this is what she did. We wanted to bring all three accused in front of one another, but could not do so due to judicial custody. We could not take them in CBI custody for interrogation.”
However, the CBI has recorded the statements of Star Network’s ex-CEO and founder of INX Media Network Peter Mukherjea and his son Rahul.
At the time of Sheena’s death, Peter’s son Rahul was in relationship with her. Indrani was not happy over closeness of Sheena and Rahul and she did not like their relationship. Rahul allegedly said in his statement that Indrani kept lying for a long time that Sheena had gone to America while Sheena’s passport was with Indrani only.
The CBI is planning to file an application before the special court to further interrogate Indrani, so that the statements made by Peter and Rahul may be verified against her.
